The Pittsburgh Penguins won their fourth Stanley Cup on June 12, 2016 against the San Jose Sharks.

Each year, the team that wins the Stanley Cup is allotted 100 days during off-season to pass the Cup around to players, staff members, and sponsors, according to the National Hockey League.

Penguins Senior Executive Dave Soltesz chose to bring the Stanley Cup to Franklin Regional High School and Mother of Sorrows School on October 7.

Soltesz’s three grandchildren attend FRHS, which is why he chose to bring it here, according to Soltesz.

Soltesz first approached high school principal Ron Suvak with the idea in July, according to Suvak.

“[I was] very thankful that he was willing to share his day with the cup with us,” said Suvak. “It’s just a great opportunity for all of us to experience something we’re not likely to do again.”

Senior Ryan Bailey was thrilled after having seen the Cup up close.

“This is pretty cool. I love [the Penguins]. They’re the greatest,” said Bailey after touching the trophy.

Freshman Lauren Callahan was equally as excited, remarking that it was interesting to see how hard the Penguins had to work to win the Cup.

“Being able to see what they won, how they pursued it, and how hard they worked is cool,” said Callahan.

The Franklin Regional staff and student body are very grateful to Soltesz for providing such a memorable experience.
